Galileo’s Ballydoyle On Top In the Debutante
Updated: August 22, 2015 at 12:40 pm
With a name that could have proved a curse, Michael Tabor’s Ballydoyle saw to it that her privileged title was well placed with a cozy all-the-way win in this significant stepping stone to greater things. Clearly highly regarded prior to her debut over six furlongs here May 23, the bay who was hammered into 5-6 proved too green but was nursed into fourth for an introduction that promised so much more as is the want of many of her stable’s newcomers. Sharper and more professional for a potentially overwhelming trip to Royal Ascot, she overcame center-stage nerves to produce a powerful late run and fail by a short head to catch Suits You (Fr) (Youmzain {Ire}) when runner-up in the June 20 Listed Chesham S. Taken to Newmarket for the July festival, Ballydoyle showed the benefit of her travels by putting up a command performance to best the subsequent winner Nemoralia (More Than Ready) in a maiden at this trip July 11 and was sent to the lead after the initial yards with Joseph O’Brien keen to exploit her streetwise advantage. Seemingly in control before beginning to veer left approaching the final furlong, she hardly needed a tap with the whip to concentrate her head on securing a snug success from the stable’s Minding and better the achievement of her full-sister Misty For Me (Ire) who had met one too good in this five years ago. “I thought there wasn’t much between our three fillies, but I thought this one had more experience and she traveled very easily in front and quickened all the way to the line,” her rider commented. “She really impressed me and she looks very good. She has improved an awful lot from each of her starts to date and hopefully that can continue. I’d imagine the G1 Moyglare Stud S. [at The Curragh Sept. 13] would be the plan.”
